1 medium carrot, peeled and finely grated
1 clove garlic, minced or grated
1 lb lean ground beef (90% lean or leaner)
1 can (28 oz) no-salt-added crushed tomatoes or jar of tomato sauce
1 tbsp tomato paste
1/2 cup low-sodium beef or chicken broth (or water)
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
